Honestly, almost no climate scientist actually believes we’re gonna hold warming to 1.5 °C from the Paris Agreement anymore. The carbon budget math just doesn't line up with real life. To hit that target we’d need to cut emissions by nearly half by 2030, but in reality new oil and gas projects keep getting approved everywhere. Worse, most of the IPCC models claiming "there's still time" rely on magical carbon removal tech that doesn't even exist at industrial scale today. Another issue people ignore is all this Net Zero accounting nonsense. A lot of country targets rely on sketchy carbon credits and the idea that planting trees will magically offset burning fossil fuels, except forests have limits and are literally catching fire from the heatwaves themselves. Not to mention tipping points like melting permafrost releasing methane, which triggers a feedback loop we can't even control anymore. Admitting 1.5 °C is gone doesn't mean giving up on everything. It’s just that the real scientific conversation has shifted from a pipe dream target to saving every fraction of a degree we can and focusing on adaptation.
